For a long time I've been searching for something I had lacked
I never knew what it could be
With oh so many people and places I could go
too many things I hated to see

And they told me I'd need reason
and they said I needed wealth
that I couldn't do without things
like security or health
But I found what I miss, now I know what it is
'Cause no place was a home for me

For a short time I'd been trying to settle down and stay
and it made me feel homesick and blue
Cause too long I'd been clinging to rock-music and singing
Without it I had nothing left to do

I felt lonely in the crowd
they told me a bunch of lies
to work by day and sleep at night
and said there'd be no taking without giving
But for sure they are wrong, I can always sing a song
for a living.

When I go along the road it's so cosy in the car
I love the world around I'm passing through
I feel all the things I see in a way belong to me
and every day I'm given something new.

and when I get doubts
Just turn the music loud
and again I'm happy and I know
what it is all about
Yeah, the road is my home and the music the place where I belong
Yeah, the road is my home & the music the place where I belong
and if I think I can't go on I start singing a new song for a living
Yeah, the road is my home & the music the place where I belong
